Can Pets Catch Ebola?
The quick answer is yes. Ebola is a disease borne from animals, originally coming from fruit bats (we think), which can live with the virus without getting ill. Gorillas, chimpanzees and humans all die soon after being infected with the deadly strain.
Ebola is also found in some hunted African animals such as forest antelopes and rodents. Ebola has not been found in any African felines such as lions, so cats may be immune. Yet another reason why we say they may have nine lives.
Dogs living with humans apparently can get infected. Although the virus itself has not been found in dogs, antibodies have been detected in their blood, suggesting the dogs had survived infections. Read more on NYTimes.com
